Just got a new Russian tortoise, looking for advice

I just got my best friend a Russian tortoise and I'm looking for some information for her. Can anyone provide some info? Age? Gender? Does the shell look ok (it has some rough edges, is that normal?)?

The shell is almost 7 inches from head opening to tail opening. These are the best pictures I could get. Please let me know. Thank you in advance.
