Hi Sophie: I "searched" through the archives and found where you introduced yourself and said you were going to get a Hermann's tortoise. Congrats on bringing him home today. Its a lot of fun to bring home a new tortoise and get him set up in his new habitat. I don't keep that kind of tortoise, but I do have Russians and they might be similar. If I had a Russian in the house I would have a light on one end of his enclosure for daytime. If the temp in your house drops down below 65 at night it would be a good idea to have a heat source at night also. You can either use a ceramic heat emitter (CHE) or a black light in your light fixture. The CHE is a white ceramic heater that looks a little bit like a light, and screws into a light fixture, but doesn't give off any light. Take a look through all the posts on this thread:

Its all about the Hermann tortoise and some of your questions might already have been addressed here.

Congrats on your new tortoise!!

Yvonne
