Hello, just joined. Looking forward to the board.
I have done much research and wish to adopt
a Sulcata. Having both and indoor and outdoor
place for one I reponded to an ad on Craigs List today
for a 9 y/o. Sadly there has been no response and
the ad has been removed. (In Spokane, Wa)
After my research I decided to try to adopt one
rather than buy one at a pet shop.
I guess when the time is right, the right one will come
along. However I do admit I am disappointed this evening.
Or rather this morning :)
I'm in Central Washington State.

Welcome to the forum,
It is a very good idea to be prepared before having a tortoise, you are doing a good job :). I am sorry to hear that you did not receive any reponse, I am sure you will find your Sulcata soon :D

If you're up for a road trip this spring or summer, you could probably adopt a Sulcata from Yvonne (emysemys) or Maggie (maggie3fan), who are in central California and Oregon, respectively.

Or someone on here should be able to hook you up with a local rescue organization in your area. We have several members from the Pacific Northwest. Chadk lives in Washington, and he may have some good leads for you, too. ;)

Good luck and welcome to the forum! Adopting a Sulcata is a very noble thing to do. I hope you find one soon. :D

Hi CJ:

to the forum!!

Take a look here:

http://seattleturtleandtortoiseclub.com/Documents/STTC August 15 2009.pdf

scroll down to the second or third page...they have a sulcata to adopt out. I don't know how old that ad is.

Also, Tom Silverfield is "the turtle guy" with The Pacific Northwest's Herp Society. I don't know if this is current or not: [email protected].

If there was a Sulcata for adoption in Oregon or California, I'd for sure
make te road trip.

JACQUI !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just came on to announce my new girl I'm picking up Sunday and
it is a road trip. Just an 8 hour round trip but a road trip none the less.
I like that crystal ball of yours. :)
I read your post and was grinning from ear to ear.

Folks that person who listed the 9 y/o female on CL was just busy and
did finally get in touch with me. I'm due to drive and go get her on Sunday.
Talk about EXCITED, I'm soooo thrilled.
She may be my first, but like potatoe chips....... you just can't stop at one right?

You have no idea how true that tends to be.

*rubs the crystal ball again*...I see much future happiness for you...and oh wow! lucky you, I see...oh wait, maybe I'd just better let you learn about your future on your own as it unfolds naturally... (but hint, your gonna love it. :D)
