Can I add leaf litter to my indoor enclosures or will this attract unwanted pests like flies?

Dried bamboo leaves come to mind. Are they safe for tort consumption?

Cheers

I think leaf litter is a good idea for natural hides and humidity retention for young tortoises. That is one of their first choices in a natural setting for security. I have not experimented with it much so far, but would think you will need to check it periodically and change out to avoid decaying leaves going moldy. Bamboo and Banana leaves are good natural choices that are also OK if eaten. Be sure it is a true bamboo, which is a type of grass, not the "Luck Bamboo" (a Dracaena) sold for containers, or other Dracaenas, also sold as a "bamboo".

I do use grape leaves extensively for my hatchlings, both in the brooder box, and in their first enclosure.

Thank you for your quick reply. Yes it is the real deal bamboo, I’m sure they will appreciate a little more coverage on the substrate. I may have to replace it every now and then as I keep the enclosure humid.
