Two female Herman’s tortoises sadly looking for a good home. They are 18 years old, I have had them 12 years but have emigrated to the US from the UK. I have tried to get them imported without any luck. It is with a heavy heart that I have no option but to rehome them. They are fit and healthy, eating well, love roaming in their outdoor enclosure and come in at night to their tortoise table to sleep.

There was a thread on the forum way back of someone who was able to import their torts to the US. Wish I could find it, but you should be able to with a little digging.

i can't say how current this info is , might be worth a look..

Several companies in the UK specialize in exporting exotic animals to the USA. Here are some examples:
  • JCS Pet Travel: They are experts in relocating reptiles, rabbits, and other exotic pets in compliance with UK import and export regulations. This includes handling health checks, necessary permits, veterinary certificates, and compliance with PETS, APHA, and CITES.
  • PBS Pet Travel: They specialize in reptile, bird, and small mammal transportation, including unusual species like turtles, monkeys, lions, and tigers. They also help UK breeders transport animals globally.
  • Pets Abroad UK: They offer safe and stress-free transport for a wide range of exotic pets, including reptiles, birds, and small mammals. They also have experience transporting zoological species.
  • Ventura Wildlife Services: They provide worldwide animal transport, with a focus on animal welfare. They have experience transporting various wild animals, including invertebrates, fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals.
  • Animal Aircare: They specialize in flying with exotic pets.

That would be so kind, thank you. They need to travel from Manchester, UK to JFK airport USA. I’m trying to find out if they can travel in cabin as my daughter is coming over in August or if they have to go in the hold. If they need health certificates etc from vets prior to travel.

Thank you

I don't believe any of the US based airlines allow reptiles in the cabin. Only dogs and cats seem to be allowed nowadays. Your daughter might be able to check them in as extra baggage to be put in the hold if they are in an airline approved carrier and have veterinary health certificates. This would need to be thoroughly checked with the airline in advance, of course.

If that is not an option, there are companies and/or customs brokers who can probably ship the animals directly to you as Mark1 mentioned.
