Lost Tortoise

I recently let my tortoise outside in my garden which I believed to be secure and now I cant find him anywhere.

I have searched the garden looked at any potential hiding spots.

The garden next to mine is derelict and I have tried to search it and cant see where he would have been able to get to if he had gotten in there.

I feel unbelievably guilty, in hindsight Its clear shouldn't have left him in the garden it was a stupid lapse in judgement and my poor tortoise didn't deserve this. I don't know what to do or how to deal with the guilt.

If the garden is secure, he's still out there. They're very good at hiding.

A tortoise should be able to go outside into a secured area. They are great at hiding. I have a full grown leopard that sometimes I have to look 2-3 times before I find him
When looking, you need to feel not just look. Feel under all thick weeds, bushes, plants, etc.
