After the loss of Petrie my boyfriend bought me Dizzy, I'm still scared something bad will happen again but I do love him!

He is 4 weeks old and about 2". He is so tiny I feel like I am going to hurt him everything I pick him up. I really can't believe they can be sold this young.

I do have questions because Petrie was 7 months old, I'm not sure what a should do differently with Dizzy since he is so young.

Any help would be great!

Well technically by law you cannot buy them till there four inches long unless it for research, someone correct me if I'm wrong. I don't own sulcatas, Dizzy is a sulcata right, but from what I see that is a very nice specimen you have there. And don't worry sometimes you can worry too much and while a certain amount of worry is good too much could cause you to go insane trying to protect your tort.

He looks great!!! I raise my 1 months the same as my 7 month olds although I would soak him more often now at least once per day but try for two times a day. How many times are you soaking him per week?

In my opinion this law is a joke and is never enforced.

Very cute. Read the threads at the bottom of my post. They will give you the info you need to raise a happy, healthy, smooth tort. A lot of torts are started out wrong or bad and no matter what we do, sometimes we just can't reverse their early days. The threads below will give you a great start.

Thank you all!

I am currently soaking Dizzzy once a day in the am. Sometimes I miss a day but at least 5 times a week. I really want him to do well so if I should up it to twice a day the I will do that.

I am glad to see him grow up but it makes me very nervous that he is so small. I am so afraid that he is going to flip over I feel like I am watching him non stop.

Is that perlite in the substrate? If so get it out quick. The tortoise will eat it and its NOT good for them at all.

The substrate is coco coir and the plant have the potting soil they came in around their roots. I'm not sure if it is perlite how do I tell?

Yup that's perlite, make sure you remove it, or any store bought plant that's been fertilized, your better to grow your own in just soil,

I'm sure you are still sad but it's lovely that you can focus your attention to something new now, dizzy :) you did fine with Petrie, all the pros on here said you were doing great. i followed everything u wrote, and what happened was very unfortunate, even though you had tried to prevent it. Channel all your love for him into this little guy :) glad you are back on track :) I think dizzy will be one spoiled tortoise ;) don't worry so much, it will drive you crazy and you will lose the enjoyment, just go and have a good read up of all the keepers links on here (you probably have already) relax and enjoy knowing that there are some fantastic minds on here at the drop of a hat if you struggle.

What happened to Petrie was an unfortunate tragedy, that's for sure, but really you did everything to the best of your ability. I was reading everything you posted too, and was heart broken when I saw your thread title and read what happened. :( but now you have a little Dizzy! ;) lol! Those little pieces of perlite can really do some damage (and I don't know why sulcatas are attracted to everything that can hurt them, when I go to the park I have to guess Karasi's trajectory and pick up every little piece of trash in her path, she is mostly attracted to everything shiny like candy wrappers, anything white like rocks or pieces of foam, and especially poop, which really grosses me out! Lol!) So even if you think he or she won't try to eat it, don't even give them the chance :p I heard some bad stories about what that stuff can do! Congratulations on the new family member, and I'll still be following your posts on him/her! Lol! And the best of luck to you! :D
