Does anyone have any experience with moving abroad with a tortoise?

I'm pretty sure you need a CITES permit for moving 'exotic' animals to other countries. Where are you moving too?

Following because I've always been curious, in case my family gets a wild hair when the big kids go off to college.

Animals going to other countries have to go through an extensive quarantine period. You need to contact the country you're moving to and find out what the rules are. For example - Canada doesn't allow the importation of turtles and tortoises, but if you're moving there and bringing a pet turtle it would be allowed. Every country has its own rules.

I'm considering leaving Canada and returning home to Trinidad. I am going to do some research on their rules. I know they are extensive and because it's an island it's very strict

So just an update on my research. I can apply for a CITES to get Benny into Trinidad, and other than a vet visit and a poo analysis, he travels there no problem. My dog Bokeh on the other hand must spend thirty days in quarantine - he has panic attacks if he sees bars. I'm so crushed.
