Do mercury vapor bulbs put off heat? If so, is this enough heat fora russian or do I need an additional heat source?

Yes they do put off heat. It may or may not be all the heat you need depending on your enclosure size and the wattage of the MVB you go with.

I agree with Jeff. We would have to know what your enclosure looks like or a general idea of your setup. Do you allow your Russian to be outside for most of the day? If so, an MVB is not necessary.
