Right now I have a 100W self-Ballasted mercury vapor UVB lamp. It's says it provides essential uva, uvb, and heat all in one.

Do you think I need another heat source, and if so what's the best?

Oh, btw, this is for a Russian tortoise.

No. But you may need one when the weather cools off.

If they are having a sale I would pick up CHE ( ceramic heat emitter) for when it starts to get cold

Adding more raw light to the habitat may be overkill, and these units do not put out a balanced light in the first place- adding red and blue light (such as from a standard incandescent bulb) will help.

I agree that you'll get more control and more options from a ceramic heat emitter (CHE), especially if used with a thermostatic heat control. The CHE can be run at night, generally lasts much longer than most bulbs, and just works nicely to 'fill in'. If you get a thermostatic controller, I would recommend the biggest CHE you can get for the habitat.
