My how times have changed. This is a picture of a polaroid of my first ever aldabra tortoise. I purchased him for $900 in 1984. I was so excited, remember driving and picking him up. Everyone thought I was nuts to spend that kinda money on a "turtle". Well things worked out pretty well. Sorry for the poor picture quality.

$900 bucks for a turtle??? You must be nuts! :p

But it ended up being a pretty darned good investment, huh Greg? Got you started on a great hobby/business.

Actually $900 seems pretty cheap for a tortoise that size. Especially nowadays.

Wow thanks for sharing. Was that the going price back then? I'm guessing he is now one of your breeder males? Isn't that so much fun when the hatchlings you raised up have their own babies...extra special.

Greg,
What's the oldest Aldabra you have that was hatched at your place? Any pics?

We have, at our place, up to three years old, about ten pounds. I keep up with several customers that have our hatchlings going back over ten years that are 100+ pounds.
