My Phoenix is a year old and she is still quite a bit smaller than most, if not all one year olds I've seen.. She still fits in my hand. I have spaghnum moss, coco choir and top soil. The humidity is always 70%-90% and there are different ranges of temperature in her enclosure. We are building a bigger enclosure this summer. She eats a varied diet. It is more varied in the summer as she gets weeds and flowers. I just want to know if it is the kind of redfoot she is or if I'm doing something wrong.. I attached pictures of my enclosure and of her. (Yes I saw the white stuff on her belly, I am going to get foot cream today)

She does look small for a year old, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything. How often do you feed her? Should be every day.

Yes I feed her everyday, but one day. The breeder and other redfoot owners ive talked to when i fitst got her said to skip one day a week, but maybe I'll start to not skip. The only protein she likes are worms and rolly pollies and mushrooms, won't touch chicken or eggs.

Oh so you think it's the size of the enclosure? I thought that too and have been getting on my husband about building her indoor one, but he doesn't think that's it.. I will try to get him started now. Sadly it is still too cold for her to be outside now.. I plan on making her outdoor enclosure next month or so.

That's what I'm getting at . Most people don't realize tortioses walk for miles and graze the whole way along .

Hello, I have a not growing redfoot tortoise too.
I got him from a craiglist. I think he was kept too dry by the previous owner and I think he is blind. He can`t see his food and is often biting in the "air".
He lives, is eating and is a little active every day but not growing.
He is three years old and still fits in the palm of my hand.

Is a 4x4 ft enclosure ok if I have a second level to it too? My first idea on where to put the new en closure, my hubby doesn't agree with. We have another area that we both agree on, but it would fit about 4x5 ft..

I would skip the nonsense about skipping one feeding day per week. Feed every day as much as he will eat.
Also make sure the tortoise is getting the correct diet, temperatures and humidity, and the correct UV light for daytime.
A visit to a good reptile vet would be the icing on the cake, so any abnormal conditions can be treated.

Nothing is better than high humidity and diffused natural sunlight for a redfoot. Your tort looks healthy and remember they live to around 50 to 75 years old. They don’t grow to near adult size until 10 to 12 years old.
