Hi everyone,

I'm from Finland, and my english isn't that good. So no judging please ;)
I have a 25-year old russian tortoise "Ninja", which has had a very hard life. He was founded in the forest ten years ago, and after that he got only Sera Raffy-pellets for food (I know...it's horrible with all the fishproteins and everything..). The last four years Ninja had a good owner that gave Ninja the right foods, UVB and everything he needed. If you think about everything Ninja has experienced, I think he is in good shape. I got Ninja this fall, and he has a good home here now :)
I have had tortoises for a long time, but it's always nice to hear from other people what they think about Ninja's shell:

I know that it's not perfect...but it's not bad?

Hi Jessica:

to the forum!!

Don't worry about your English! Your post sounds just fine to me.

And after what Ninja has been through, he looks absolutely beautiful! He's a well-cared for little Russian tortoise. Even though he didn't have a very good start, he's very lucky someone found him in the forest before he got into trouble.

He looks great! His shell looks good to me :) His beak does look a little long though, and his nails do too. If you can find some slate, and place one of them as his food dish, and around his enclosure, it will help wear down his beak when he eats, and wear down his nails when he is exploring =]

Thank you everyone!
Those photos are taken in september 2009, just when Ninja arriwed to us. The beak is "trimmed" after that, no problem :) But his nails...really? Ok, good to know!! :)

Yes I will post it here as soon as he wakes up :)

And one more thing! What do you think about Ninja's skin? Is it too dry, or is it normal?
The skin still looks the same as it was in september.
The climate has been really dry here in Finland last fall and this winter. It has been even -30 degrees outside, so you can imagine how dry the climate is.
I think it has affected Ninja's skin.
