I have 2 baby lepoards coming on friday. Please let me know if I need to improve anything. The blue bowl will be replaced with a tortie water dish this week.

The deep dome holds the CHE 10.0 uvb and a regular 60watt in the other dome.

These plant will be replaced with grass in a smaller pot once I find some seed.

CHE over water for humidity other dome over the planter for a warm hide with moss slate to feed on. Cypress mulch for humidity also.

It is 36" long 24" wide. I do plan on getting another one and attaching the two of them in a few months. I would be 72" long and 24" wide. Yes they are babies.

I used a Tortoise House for awhile...a short while;) Connecting two is GREAT! But they are cheap...the wood bows very easy. With these I like using a pond liner and a coconut husk/coco coir combo...approx 4:1 husk:coir. You need the pond liner cuz you'll be moistening the substrate every 3 days or so! Lose the 60W and replace with a 100W MVB...I got great results with this combo!

The only problem with the 100w MVB is I am all ready heating it up to 115 at the basking spot with the CHE when the house is warm but it cools off at night to 98. I will give it a try.

With the TORTOISE HOUSE, you use the MVB during the day...then switch to the CHE at night! Besides, they can withstand temps up to 140...and they know when to retreat. Besides, if they don't go outside, they'll need an MVB. It's the only true full spectrum source of UV. No fluorescent tube...no basking bulb can match its potency. Just remember the UV usually 'runs out' before the bulb dies. They need to be changed out about every 6 months.

Wow 140 HOLLY COW that I did not know I will order one tomorrow. If I don't get it before they come in will this set up work till it does? I read your care sheet on them I love it. One question for you the nite time temps drop to 70 away from the CHE is that going to be a problem.

I have the exact same tort house for Wilbur. Since he is still a hatchling, it works for now. But very soon I am going to build him a new one. Congrats on getting your baby, be sure to share those pics:D

You can pick up the Powersun from Zoo Med off ebay for a lot less than anywhere else!

You can also get a 60 watt MVB. I think 140 is WAY too high for ANY baby! The higher the heat, the more likely they are to pyramid or dehydrate - leading to kidney failure later down the road.

I have never ever ever in the last 17 years seen a tortoise sit in the sunlight at that high of a temp. Mine run for shade at 85*, and absolutely always have. I just think it is dangerous, unnecessary and frankly, unnatural to keep a baby under that hot of a lamp. I just lost a 6 month old Star tortoise that flipped under a 40 watt lamp, and died because of it. Yes, it gets up to 140* warm where they come from, but they just don't sit out in it.... They burrow and hide.

I don't know if I'd trust a bulb from ebay to not be used. But I did just get a 100w mvb from Amazon for 42 (after shipping) so you could always try there.
