Nail care

So my new tortoise seem to have rather long nails. I want to know if this is usual and with walking and digging it will shorten or it needs to be trimmed?

Trim with care or get professionally done as there is cuticle to about 1/2 way down. If you do it only mm trim and use a light behind to see the cuticle using pet clippers but recommend caution and put more stone and slate in the enclosure for natural wear. Also if you do it they can wee so have paper and a bowl under etc.... I am sure others will advise!
