Greetings. Just curious if CHEs are being used to provide heat inside an enclosure?

Or, is your Sully burrowing under anything?

So, it looks like either HEAT or ABRASION damage.

But there also seems to be at least one bite or peck mark (lower right hand scute)
Angie
Yes I see that now. I also see two holes/bite mark's. They could be from a nail or something else she is scraping on or a peck mark like from a bird. Not sure they would be a bite mark. I think a bite would leave more damage then one hole in each spot.
Do a search of her enclosure and look every place for what she could be scraping on.
What kind of predators in birds and animals do you have in your area?
You don't have a dog that can get to her right?

He is currently living outside we live in the Central Valley so it’s decently hot. His environment is dirt around him with some new dry grass.

No there is no CHEs being used and he is burrowing under a retaining wall.

Those came when a dog attacked him 7 years ago. The only place he could be scrapping is where he’s burrowing which is under a retaining wall. So should I fill in back up. The dog can’t get to him anymore that was a long time ago

Looks like scrapes to me. You can also see scraping on the front of the carapace. I'll bet he's hitting the retaining wall going under it.

If tortoise can see the other side they will do their utmost to get there. I suggest a perimeter check and use wood lengths to block vision or Tinder blocks to block any digging points. Try using coconut oil on the shell yield help moisturise.
Ensure he has good welfare, water, food , shade and some substrate base to rest on.

It looks like a dog tried to get him. 😢 To me it looks like he has 3 bite holes.

The OP said that happened years ago. This thread is about the scrapes on the carapace.

Yes, I would block him from going under the retaining wall. Does he have a night box? If he doesn't have a night box, build him one. Member Tom has a thread on how to build one for a sulcata. Then try to get him to use that instead of burrowing. You could even put the night box over the place he is burrowing at the wall. Just be sure it's a shaded area.
