How long does the female typically guard the nest? Is it an aggressive guarding posture? I assume the nest protection is to ward off other females from using the same nest site as there don't appear to be any mammalian or other reptilian predators native to their range. Correct?

I thought the Manouria tortoises were the only tortoises that guarded their nests.

This female has always "guarded" her nest spot , up to several days. We have two others that also do this, all others never do. The only significance with this female "Sandy", is she always has two or three clutches per season with very high fertility. :)
