Hello,

I'm a little worried I got a 12 mouth old Hermann a week ago now and she isn't eating much at all. I mean all she eats is eating is a half of a tomato and some cress.

She is a lively one though she runs around the viv and I have put her in my garden so she can run and on my bed so she has more space to run around on and she loves it.

I have a 5% uv bulb and the warm side is 80f if not a little hoter. I called up the shop and they said it is just because she has to settle down to a new home and if that is true I'd be okay but I'm just worried. If anyone knows some tips how to get them eating Id listen I have tried weeds and veg. Or if anyone might know why she isn't eating I'd be all ears.

Hope to hear back soon because I'm Worried

Liam

Welcome to the forum. From what I have read on the forum it does take them a bit of time to get use to their environment. If she is active it would seem she is fine and just trying to adjusted. I am sure someone with more experience with a Hermann will chime in soon.

Hello and Welcome:) I don't have a hermanns, but yes, it is true they do need time to adjust. Sometimes this will help to get them to eat more. In the a.m. When lights come on, give her a warm water soak for 20-30 minutes, keeping the water warm. Then, when you put her back in her enclosure, have her food there waiting for her and put her in front of it and walk away. Don't stand over her watching to see if she eats. Until she is comfortable with you, she probably won't eat much with you watching.

Welcome... and do what Wellington says :)

Your tort needs to learn that you and its enclosure are safe... and they can be very slow to work it out. A few weeks is not unusual. The soak routine helps keep your tort hydrated and gets it used to being handled.

The redfoot i got was the exact opposite. He ate a lot after i gave him a warm soak in the norning to wake him up. Then he went right back to bed an hour or so later.

So glad to hear that your tort is eating more, they do take a little while to adjust. Yes, they do love cuttlefish bone; and it also helps trim their beaks. Hope you continue to have a fantastic tort experience! :D

I have a Greek Tortoise and it took him about a week to start eating. I think you should give him another week to eat and if it takes any longer than that then you should take him to a vet or reptile expert.
