i decided to use an old dresser of mine for Ophleia's new enclosure. though i was told at the petstore today that i would need to 'poxy' it. i knew i would have to line it with something so i bought heavy tablecloths...would this be ok to use or do i need to use the poxy?

Some folks use paint. The only thing I've ever used it a shower curtain liner. They're really cheap, flimsy and easy to use. If you line the box with it and bring the liner up over to the outside edge, you can tape it then staple through the tape for added security. Don't staple down where the substrate would be or it might rust the staples and start to leak.
