I was wanting to make a hide for a new elongated baby that's arriving in a couple of weeks but I wanted it to be more natural. I started off with just a cave looking frame, then thought it looked like a tort body, so I added the head and tail. It is planted with creeping Jenny. The "legs" will be sunk down in the substrate so it will be closed off on both sides. I kinda like how it turned out. Can't wait for the plants to completely cover it's body.

That's cool! A neighbor just gave us a tort-shaped topiary frame she didn't want and I was wondering what to plant on it. Maybe creeping Jenny is the thing. Oh and you'll have to update this post w/pix of your new tort in his custom hide.

I must say, you did a great job. Part of the excitement from owning a tortoise is using your creativity in the process. Well done!

WOW! That is really neat! I read an article about keeping tortoises' humidity up by making things like this for them to hide in. The plant roots and the substrate they grow in keep the little cave nice and moist!. Can't wait to see it all grown in.
