Last week I answered a Craigslist add and re-homed a RES. Tonight the same lady called and said she had another Turtle but she thought it was a "land turtle". I got to her house (just a block from mine) and here is what she had!

I think its a girl???

There is some white spots on her back, any ideas? Its almost like white plaster.

Here is her temp home, just for the night.

I got her home and soaked her good. I setup the tub with some greens. Ill figure out the water in the morning.

NOW.... what to do with her. I don't have an outdoor enclosure setup at the moment but would like to keep Russians. I have a Redfoot in an outdoor enclosure that im thinking i should find a better home for, (i don't have room for a big indoor enclosure for the winter).
I also know someone that had an adult female die last month, maybe i should give her to that home.

What ever the case this girl will have a new place to dig!

If you were closer to me I would take her in a minute I want to set up a breeding colony of russians, those white spots look more than likely old shell rot, she is nice looking though other wise are you sure she is a she? I am just curious.

Hi Murry:

Isn't it amazing how, once you have a turtle or tortoise, you just happen to fall into more of them?

So, let me understand...

You'd like to find a new home for the redfoot and let the Russian have the outdoor pen.

I don't think you'd have any trouble re-homing the redfoot. The president of the Fresno club keeps redfoots and I'm sure there are more club members who might be interested.

The white spot is dead bone. It is in the process of re-growing keratin and new bone under it. That's why it looks raised. Eventually that will pop off.

I think that's what id like to do. Im going to build anoter enclosure like the one I just finished. It wil be in the south east corner of the yard. The first is in the south west corner. That way ill have a place for my cdt's and a place for the russians. The pond with he sliders is in the middle.

Now I have to see what Hannah says about all this!

Oh I'm sure Hannah would be fine with it (unless she has grown fond/attached to the RF). You just may have to set up a third pen and keep her.
