Hi Everyone,

I'm from NH and recently rescued a Russian Tortoise from Cragislist. So I'm reading and studying and hoping that I'm making his life better any way I can. Thanks to this site, I've made quite a few changes that I think have improved things for him.

I've attached a few pictures, and as you can see, I think his beak and nails are quite overgrown. His shell has an odd curl to it and I wonder how much of that is MBD due to his poor diet and housing. After that holidays, I will be taking him to the reptile veterinarian for a full check up.

I'm so glad I found this site and look forward to learning so much more. Thanks in advance for any advice or suggestions.

Happy Holidays

Welcome to the Forum :D and what an absolutely handsome tort you have rescued....he has great spirit in his eyes. Once you get that beak trimmed down for him ---he will have a new bounce in his step for sure...great save ;)

WELCOME!! He is a handsome little fellow and he is very lucky to have you!!
Do you have any specific questions or are you still "absorbing" old threads?

Welcome! Even with his beak, he has a really cute face. As long as he can eat a bit, not a bad idea to wait to have it trimmed for a week or two so he can settle in his new home.
Good for you!

Thank you so much everyone for the warm welcome. I am still immersed in the literature and was amazed at how much this poor guy was lacking. Luckily my Bearded and the Tortoise have similar requirements, so I was prepared in many ways.

I'm still immersed in reading, but I will place my questions in the appropriate threads. Just wanted to say hello and introduce this guy. Thanks again for making me feel like it's ok to join in. So many sites just jump on what new people are doing wrong. It makes me feel great to see a group of knowledgeable people who are also really supportive.

Happy Holidays!
