Hi everyone, I'm a first timer and I just adopted my little Russian yesterday. I'm guessing he's no older than a year (he's about the size of my palm). Anyways, I have a few questions:

Is it possible for him to consume too much cuttlebone? He seems very interested inthe half I put in there.

How can you tell if the nails are too long? I know Russians have some gnarly claws, but I'm not sure about the proper length.

And lastly, what should I name him? :D I was thinking Creedence, but I'm still not sure. I'll be sure to upload pictures once I'm not on my phone, haha.

Hi Creedence:

Welcome to the Tortoise Forum!!

If your new little steppe tortoise is about the size of your palm, its almost full grown. A one year old steppe tortoise would be about the size of a silver dollar.

No, let him eat as much cuttlebone as he wants to. He must need the extra calcium.

If you'll post a picture of the nails, someone here can tell you if they're too long.

If you look on the forum page, there's a thread with tortoise names listed.

What would you like us to call you?

...and may we know appx. where in the world you are?
