new tortoise?

hello there




i've been wanting a tort for a while now and my parents said i could get one now :)

i live in maryland and i wanted a tort that could be kept inside (my yard isn't suitable for torts, my neighbors have dogs)

any suggestions? i wanted something that's sorta smol. i've read around that russian tortoises are best for beginners, but are there any other breeds that are good?

Hello and Welcome. Russian, Hermanns and Greeks. However, they still need a minimum of a 4x8 foot enclosure as an adult. If floor space is limited, you can do a two level enclosure to meet the size required.

alright, thx :))

also, should the enclosure be on the ground or floor when their smaller?

if they grow i assume putting the enclosure on the ground would be best since they're sorta heavy?

Mine were always on the floor. Just remember it's colder on the floor then up on a table. So in the colder months you may need to adjust the heat or add more.
