I may be on wrong forum. Just let me know if I am and where to go. My father had 6 box turtles as his hobby. He had a heart attack and couldn't keep up the proper care for them. I personally have 5 Red-Eared Sliders, in 4 tanks in my home. I have always had a turtle most of my life. So my father asked if I could take care of them, of course I am now. Have had them for almost 4 years. I have 2 males and 4 females. All 4 have been mated every year, but never had hatchlings. Yesterday when I was in pen feeding them and fresh water, something caught my eye, I picked it up and realized I was holding our first Baby box turtle! I looked all around for anymore and didn't find anymore. I do have a lot of pine needles in their pen, they burrow under them and have trails next to all of them. 4 mama turtles and only 1 baby? I'm new with hatchlings. Could the male turtle maybe have eaten them?. Or birds getting them,? The pen isn't covered and I have bricks all around the pen, so no babies could escape. This baby is about the size of a quarter. I brought him inside and have him in a glass baking dish with little water. He sleeps a lot and I pick him up to crawl around my hand a few minutes for activity. Then put him back. My grown turtles are all tame and come up to me wen it's time to eat. My Dad spoiled them, I kept the tradition up. I am going to get a tank for him tomorrow. What I need to know is what should be put in bottom of tank? I was going to add the pine needles that's all in the pen.and some of the barky dark dirt that is under the pine needles..So I can add a small water dish in the dirt to be even for him to get in and out. Going to get the worms (gross) for him to eat, etc. So is there any thing I should do extra or change ?? Or move to another forum?
Thank you for reading my book, sorry, just never had a hatchling.

Don't worry you may go out to the pen tommarow or Evan the next day and find more baby's I have found that once one nest hatches others start hatching in the area . And if the " worms are too gross " give then sml amounts of cat food mixed with greens if the yoke sacks are gone

Why don't you just leave them out?
I'm afraid the birds will get them. My Pen is too large for a top. Found another baby this morning, I cud hear big birds, couldn't see them, but sounded like black birds. I am keeping the babies until they get bigger.

Ok, I have 4 babies now, looked for others, but haven't seen anymore.
I still have them in the glass baking dish and I put pine needles in it, since that was what they were born in. Not eating yet. So please tell me wat I need to do, 4 days old now. When I pick them up, they swim in the air, so they seem to be ok. I don't want to lose them!! Going to get them an aquarium, hopefully they have one with everything. But until then, wat do I do? I moisten my water turtle sticks and put one for each turtle, not eating......help

My hatchling needs a little coaching before he will eat. I soak him in warm water in a small shallow bowl for about 30 minutes (while he's outside) and then put wet high quality cat food in a bowl with meal worms. I put a lid partially on the bowl so it's dark and he think's he is hiding and leave him there for 30 minutes. I do this every other day. He eats a worm or two and some of the cat food. I'm trying hand feeding but he's still a little skittish.

Your hatching looks identical to mine.
