In August I got a pair of Hermann's torts, one eastern and one Herzegovina. I was told they were long term captives...and that they were free on disease and parasites. Both are healthy and active but I was wondering if I should preventively do anything just in case. Btw I got them from a reptile show so I am not 100% sure of their origin and if they were truly long term captives (which I doubt because they are sub-adults).

Any advice appreciated.

It never hurts to have your vet check for worms when you suspect a wild caught tortoise.

It's up to you if you want to have a vet checks them but imo if they act and eat normal then I wouldn't worry much.

Whenever I get a new tortoise I quarantine them for a minimum of 90 days. As long as they are eating good, well hydrated, active and their feces is solid and normal I don't worry about it from that point on unless there is a problem in the future.

My personal feeling is that I simply don't see the point in taking an active, healthy tortoise from it's established environment for no apparent reason. It's just another source of stress that can upset it's routine which may then cause the problems that you were trying to guard against!
