Sorry I should probly ask all this stuff in one thread but I just keep seeing things I wanna fix
1) he keeps draging his substrate into his water. Is there away to keep his water clean.
2) he walks into his food dish(but doesn't eat anything) then when he walks out of his dish he has food stuck to him witch the gets scatterd around his cage. Then when he gets hungry he eats the food he draged out of the bowl insted of eating out of his dish (sorry I don't lknow how to explain it very well)
How do I get him to eat the food out of his dish?

I'm really new to the thread, and to owning a tortoise, but I've always heard that it's better for them to scavenge for their food. So scattering it about the cage is a good thing.

Actually most of us feed on a piece of slate or flat rock. It helps to keep their beaks filed done. The only thing I can tell you is try a different food placement within the enclosure. Like a corner, where he can't really walk through it. Other then that, torts will be torts.

Haha I actually have his food in a corner so he wouldn't walk through it but he still does. Oh well he seems healthy and he doesn't seem to get too much substrate in his mouth

He sounds like a typical tortoise. That's just what they do. Some people put flat rocks around the water dish to help keep it clean.

home depot oy any type store like that will have pavers or stepping stones..
bark, if eaten, is worse then a soil type substrate.

I got some smaller "river rocks" at Michaels I put them around the water bowl (my torts are still babies so their bowl isn't huge yet). I also put some around their basking rocks.

I got mine from home depot and I place it under the basking light. By the time they get to the rock to eat in the morning it is all warm & cozy. My tort's always filled their water with substrate so I changed substrate, now they poop in their water, haha! The water is always gross and needs constant cleaning, it's a glamorous life:).
