I all I have a Greek, he Is about five I got him from someone who didn't care for him very good. He is doing great and now the weather here is getting better I want to make an outdoor enclosure. I know greeks burrow so how far down do I dig? Also does anyone have torts outside that live in Utah? Should I put a heating rock outside for him?

Hi cpreston:

Welcome to the Tortoise Forum!!

What would you like us to call you?

In my opinion, just because they burrow in the wild doesn't mean we should allow them to burrow in captivity. Especially since your climate in Utah is nothing like the climate where his type tortoise comes from. You should provide him with a safe, air tight house where he can be cool in the summer and warm in the winter, and let it go at that. If you want him to hibernate (if that type tortoise hibernates), then you should box him up and keep him in the garage or a back bedroom closet.
