my husband is getting ready to start making an outdoor enclosure for my sully. she will be 3 y.o. in august. she is around 15" and about 18 lbs.

pen will be 16' square.

my husband wants to use hog panels for the sides (we are in a farming community, so everything he thinks is pretty farming oriented). but, we are having a disagreement on what to use to line the inside of those panels, about 2' up so she can't see out.

plywood? he's wanting ideas for something that is cheaper and "looks better".

his suggestion - conveyor belt material. ummm... not sure imo that would "look better", but i'm humoring him. i've priced it and it's way higher than plywood. but, i think maybe he knows someone that could get it for him cheap. anyone have any thoughts on using this on the sides?

but ... i am looking for any ideas of things that other people have done that would work good for sides that my tort won't be able to see out of as she grows. pictures welcome!!!!!

(i already have plans for a "house" that i found in a couple of tom's threads, so i don't need suggestions for that. just need ideas for the sides/walls of a 16' pen.)

You can use redwood or cedar kick boards. Those are the 1x12 boards used at the bottom of a privacy fence. If you mount them so they are up from the ground a bit you can have them at eye-level for the tortoise.

hmmm.... thanks yvonne. your suggestion got me to looking at websites for lumber and it looks like fencing panels would look nicer too. not cheaper, of course, but way nicer. :)
