I've had my baby for a few weeks and I've been taking him outside for about 10-15 minutes every day that it's warm enough. Is this adequate time or should I let him stay out longer? I'm worried about him drying out in the hot sun

I like an hour or two for babies. I gradually increase the time as they gain size. I like to leave them outside most of the day, weather permitting, once they reach 5-6 inches. I always soak babies on the way back inside.

To clarify: Babies should have access to sun for an hour or two, not be in full direct sun. There should always be ample shade for them to retreat to if they start getting too warm. They should also be in an enclosure of some sort with a heavy duty cover to protect them from dogs and other predators.

Read this thread for baby enclosure ideas. There is a post from me in there with three links for ideas too.
