Just wondered what reaction you get when you tell people you have tortoises. I'm tired of people telling me they must be boring.

I don't generally tell people... the fewer people who know the better for Joe's safety.

My friends don't give two cent or tell me I'm lame..... IM SO HAPPY I FOUND THIS FORUM!!! Its sucks to get no reaction when I show someone any of the awesome, cute, and funny pictures posted.
I don't tell people either. If someone ask while I am buying something for him, they usually think it's great or cool or they say they have always wanted one. Keep in mind though, these people also work at a pet store, so they get it.
I never thought of the safety aspect, I live in a very safe area. I'll keep schtum from now on though.
I usually don't advertise it either. Every so often, I get a big load of greens to the register at the grocery store and if the cashier makes a joke about it, I may mention something about it being for my tortoise.
But in general, most people find it just weird and boring enough not to continue the conversation. Plus, for security reasons...I obviously don't want a lot of people knowing I have a tortoise in my backyard.

I don't tell many people about my tortoises. When I do talk about them people usually look at me like I am crazy and make some kind of comment about them being boring. I also have snakes and an iguana. People seem to show a little more interest in the iguana but have nothing nice to say about the snakes.
I get the same reaction but I don't care I love everything about him and find the forum interesting, informative and the photos of all the different species of tortoises fascinating! also, talking to like minded people

but some (not very much at all) thinks it's original and likes them.

I think fluffy pets are the accepted ones & that people are more interested. Reading these comments, I think the less interest the better anyway.

I was at a home and garden store trying to find a light fixture, and I have NO IDEA when it comes to electronics, so the guy asked me what I needed it for and I said it was for a tortoise enclosure and he just squinted and looked at me funny, like maybe I was joking or something... That's usually the reaction I get.
