Beautiful little ones you have there. What type of turtle are they?

Ahh. Learn something new every day. :)

Beautiful coloration. In the first picture, it almost looks a bit like a duck bill. Very cute.

They do fine in fresh water too, they can live in both

ONLY if they are hatchlings raised in fresh water! These 2 were both raised in fresh water.... and still I have added one CUP of salt [ marine or canning/rock - no additives ] per 10 gallons of fresh water.. and the filter used now is rated @ 330 gallons per hour.. every 20 minutes the entire 110 gallons is filtered. They require brackish or "pure" fresh water. Also these guys are NOT fed in the tub they live in to eliminate any additional impurities.

I tried to acclimate a beautiful adult female from the wild [ long story ] into fresh water --- it was a nightmarish death!

And then we have Booferd.. he's a little mixed up ( different blood ) but I like him! He doesn't have the "drive" that Bo has but he's beauteous in my eyes -

Moozilion Booferd is a hybrid - which is not really my idea.. but he came along with a female I wanted. He is the results of a Northern Concentric ( like my male with Bonnie above ) and an Ornate from the Gulf coast -

Buckbeak3-20-10.jpg

"Most" hybrid terrapins are either very passive or aggressive.. and since he is passive:

1) he makes for a nice pretty pet..

2) IF he ever created babies there is a danger they could end up in the wrong hands and represented as "pure". [ - Ornate terrapins are considered a very high-dollar turtle in the pet trade = very rare and expensive - ] Which could introduce "bad-blood" into the gene pool.

Just like I will disclose that the "Bo/Bonnie" babies are from a Concentric male and a 'light-phased' Northern female... which no doubt will produce hatchlings that look very "Concentric"! Like so -

Hope that makes sense.
