Pine sap

What does everyone recommend using to get pine sap off of a sulcatas shell?

I've used a toothbrush to remove mesquite sap from a sulcata, I don't imagine pine would be too different. Also, once left it alone to harden and then peeled it off, but it discolored the spot a bit.
