"We" (Cichlid hobbyists) do something similar with the fishes that we keep.
It's not a kind thing.
Placing a mirror by the tank brings out the colors and the fish seems playful.
However, he's trying to kill the other fish.

your tortoise will get it's exercise by having a nice big enclosure with lots of places to explore. That's the best exercise for them.

No need for the tone to be honest. Abit abrupt. I get your point. Surely you can understand why I asked & made a thread in the first place.
honest? Do you want me to lie? I can if you want to

I occasionally place a golf ball near Tidgy.
Mostly she ignores it but occasionally will give it a bosh with her nose or forelimb, or just sniff it a bit.
She doesn't chase it about, I'm fairly certain she doesn't feel threatened by it, but i'm not sure it provides her much exercise either.
Unlike her unicycle.

Did I ask you to lie?.... No. Problem is how you wrote to the reply. Could be worded slightly different that's all I'm saying. I appreciate your comments and I take them on board just sometimes how you write things comes across alittle blunt and abit patronising. I would be the first to admit that I am not an expert. That's why I came on here as I'm willing to learn & join the great community & make tort friends from all over. I consider a lot of people on here as my friends and sometimes may have a different opinion to me but they write in away that doesn't offend.

An awful lot is lost in the translation. For example, if Steve had just put a comma after "...no need for the tone," we would have realized he was saying that He, Steve, is being honest in telling David he didn't appreciate David's tone.

Some people like for their tortoises to have "toys" even though the toys encourage the male tortoise to be stressed out over trying to breed or fight with an inanimate object, and some people don't like to give their tortoises a toy. I guess it's a personal preference.

True that sometimes wording can cause a misunderstanding. However, I am very sorry to say that some members can be extremely HURTFUL, HARSH, HARD HEARTED...you name it, when "giving advise." This is NOT the way, I can assure you.

I'm only quoting what you said you said my response was honest re-read your post if you don't believe me. If my post was too honest there's only one other option. nothing wrong with being blunt

I'm not sure where I fall on the stress bad/exercise good line. I don't use any 'toys' in the enclosure, but our aggressive elongated gets a ton of exercise by patrolling his territory and trying to get at and attack intruders he finds (read: humans or cats standing outside his enclosure). Any time I spend cleaning in his territory or even nearby, is a time that he is charging, ramming, and trying to flip (lol) or bite me. It's honestly pretty funny. He's 6" of pure fight. I don't intentionally tease him by cleaning and feeding him, but I do also enjoy that he gets so much activity during those times as he does. I often think he doesn't like me around, but then he and I split a papaya together and he seems all sweet and docile again remembering that I am also food god. Is it good that he gets so much exercise? I think so. Is it bad that he is doing it out of territorial behaviour? I don't think so, but does it mean he is stressed (in a bad way)? I don't know.

What species is your tort? (though I do not think it matters in this thread).

I believe territorial displays and (pretending) to fight to the death while coming out the winner is certainly a good thing for a tortoise and most critters/lifeforms on earth. Just think how happy Eternal General Secretary of the Party Kim Jong-il of North Korea is after his little missile launches exercised lately. I'm sure he feels all manly now, all 5'9" of the delusional and egotistical freak show that he is.
