Hi, i’m worried if my tortoise is okay, he has a pink bubble on his shell - when you press down it moves around the shell. Does anyone have an idea what it is and if its worth taking him to the vet??

I see two tortoises in the picture. How many do you have?
Tortoises should never be housed in pairs, specially Russians.
My guess is he got damaged by either the other tortoise or something dropped on him and he's possibly bleeding under the shell.
Get him in an enclosure by himself so further damage isn't done.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

I agree that the pink area look like a bruise or injury of some sort.

Most of the care info found online or at pet shops is all wrong. Vets get their care info from the same wrong sources, so they aren't usually any better. Please read these two threads for the correct care info, and questions are welcome. We want to help you and your tortoises. We won't attack or insult you here.

You can't just buy another, tortoise that is. Two males can never live together. One male to a group of females and in a very large enclosure. One Russian adult needs a 4x8 foot minimum enclosure.
Unless you were talking about getting another enclosure then yes, ASAP.

Definitely looks to be some sort of injury, they definitely both need separating into their own appropriately sized enclosures! This injury could’ve been caused by the other one, Russians are particularly territorial. Also second that about the sand!

Hopefully you’ll find this indoor housing thread I made useful, it covers correct equipment(lighting, heating, uv), levels, sizing, appropriately maintaining humidity, substrates, there’s lots of visual examples for everything and a really handy diet link to check out!

This one is also really good to familiarise yourself with, it’ll help you avoid the wrong bulbs, substrates, housing etc, I always encourage double checking purchases on the forum too before buying

I hope they help! Give them a read and let us know if you have any further questions!🐢💚
