Hello - Could some please identify this weed for me, it looks like a dandelion but is prickly

Can my IST eat them, not sure as prickly?

Almost looks like a type of Thistle to me. I know there are types of thistles that can be eaten, but never knew what types.

Thanks Rob - it is definately prickly like a thistle!

Danny - can you tell what it might be and is it ok for torts?

My other half (Kelly) is the plant person :D She says it's Prickly sow thistle, Sonchus asper and is edible. :)

Danny - Can they eat this one, as the 't lady' website, that in a previous thread you stated I should check, only describes the smooth kind for torts? Leanne

He says they ARE edible in his response if you missed that.

I think torts have pretty good tools to not get poked by things. It you think it's an issue, you could always pull a lot of the prickers off.

I personally won't feed mine thistle until he's a little bigger. But mines only 4-5months old now

Thanks Rob - I did get the edible bit, just checking as it was not on my recommended list for edible plants.

Yep it is Prickly sow thistle... i didn't have any internet this morning so had to get a good description from Danny... glad i don't look a right plonker now lol

it is edible and good food as part of a varied diet ;) :D

Oh and forgot to say... have fun picking it :D

And Danny i am far from being a plant person...
