Hello! I was out foraging for My Russian tortoise and found a large patch of this plant growing in my neighbor’s yard. Can anyone identify it? I’m thinking of posting to our state’s forestry department for help, too. Such big, healthy plants! I want to use them if safe! I live in southern WV, USA, if that helps.

It almost looks like stinging nettle, but the leaf edges are not serrated enough...

Either the forestry department or a local Ag extension may have a dichotomous key for local plants.

Ha. I got fleabane or a cress (a brassica). I'm leaning toward cress. If you bite it, is it kinda hot or spicy? Then it's a cress of some kind, and safe.

Otherwise you'll have to let the plant get a little bigger and/or flower, then try again.
