Hi,

I found few weeds in the park and would like to know if these are safe for my hermann tortoise. Please help in identification.

Thank you!

I am no expert on weed/plant identification but wanted ,anyway, to caution you about feeding plants unless you know they haven't been sprayed with pesticides.

+1 on what Keepergale said.

It's very hard to I.D. any plant from just a leaf.

Three looks like some sort of thistle and 4 looks like stinging nettle.

The first two are thistle.

I don't know the third.

The fourth looks like mint of some sort to me, but I'm not sure of this.

Don't know 5 and 6, or 7.

Where are you? Sometimes this offers a clue.

Thank you all for the response! I live in Columbus, Ohio.

Trying to add variety of weeds to his diet, currently i am feeding him narrow leaf plantain, dandelion leaf, fresh clover ,african violet flowers added with some raddichio and escarole. once a week opuntia cactus and every 2 weeks few slices of cucumber to keep him hydrated. as plantain and cactus are good sources of calcium, am not adding calcium powder. Adding vitamin supplement once a week.

Any suggestion to improve this diet are always welcome:) Thanks again!

I like everything you are already doing, but I would suggest much more variety.

Add many more weeds, grape vine, hibiscus and mulberry leaves, gazanias, pansies, marigolds, lavatera, sunflower leaves, an assortment of squash leaves and blooms, green bean plants and leaves, fresh grown alfalfa, the "Testudo Mix" from tortoisesupply.com, rose leaves and flowers (be sure no chemicals used on them…), nasturtiums, and finally, a little soaked Mazuri once or twice a week is good insurance against any dietary discrepancies.

The list of things you can grow and feed is endless.

Thank Tom :) and thank you for the suggestion!

i am growing testudo seed mix/broadleaf plantain/voila/pansy/petunia and wheatgrass. i add timothy hay in his food to add extra fiber. i did order dried weeds and herbs mix from tortoise supply but he is not eating the mix :(

i have found few varieties of thistle, cats ear and purple deadnettle that am re-growing in the pot.

Hopefully in 2-3 weeks should be able to add more variety.
