My family has had her for at least 6 years. She is originally from Indianapolis, IN. My nephew was given her, and we thought she was a russian, now I am not sure.
She's not a tortoise at all. She's a box turtle. I'm not sure what her species is, its hard to tell from those pictures.
Do you know how he is keeping her? Something isn't right with her care, she's got some deformities. See how it looks like she's too big for her shell? Its because she grew, but the shell did not.
Can you post pictures of her enclosure? What does she have for UVB lighting? Diet?
She has lived with us now for almost a year. She had been kept in a plastic container, with no light, fed hotdogs, and not properly cared for.....She now is in a large cage from petco, we have her in aspen bedding, with a container of water she climbs in and out of, and a log she sleeps under...She is fed romaine lettuce, fresh fruit whenever possible, (frozen fruit if I don't have fresh in the house) we sprinkle tortoise dust veggie formula by t rex on her food....My daughter puts her in the bathtub at least 1-2x's weekly, we have started putting her cage outside in the screened patio during the day. My daughter lets her play in the grass, under close supervision... We have noticed her neck sheds. We do not have a uv light on her, we have a lamp that sits on the table next to her cage, where she can get under it... I am on here to find out how to take care of her.
I would make the water dish smaller and shallow.. a dish for under plant pots is good. it could fall in that one you have and drown. You are doing better by her then the last person! But her diet still needs some adjusting.. you have come to the right place! Open your mine and start reading! welcome!
For sure your baby needs a totally different set up than he is in...
Next spring you should keep him/her outside all the time, and i suggest using a rubbermaid tub and creating a outside environment in your home, set him outside in that every day for the sun light...maybe 20 mins.. you could find a setting like a soccor net to cover the top to stop critter or bird from getting in...
