Pls !!Help me Identify :- Tortoise or Turtle???

Hey Guys,

Just got a tortoise/turtle from my building, idk what is it, please help me identify which one is it.

I just placed him in water but removed it later, thought it was drowning.

I live in Mumbai,India.

Please Help guys!!!!!

You have an Indian flapshell turtle, Lissemys punctata. It's very much a water turtle.

Not very long, about 5 days.

Welcome to the forum!!

You thought he looked like he was drowning because he was frantically trying to swim go get away! He's probably a wild turtle and not used to being handled. To him, you are the monster that's going to eat him.

That's a beautiful turtle. I've never seen a flap shell before. I have a couple of softshelled turtles that look similar. None of my water turtles enjoy being handled.

And just a tid bit of information for you...a water turtle has to be in the water in order to swallow his food, so he won't eat unless you set him up in some sort of pond.
