porphid flies anyone ?

has anyone ever had a problem with these little guys coming about in tort tables ? i have some, they dont bother me nor do they seem to bother einstein. ive read that these little guys eat small fungus, bacteria and decaying matter. can this maybe somehow be beneficial ? thought anyone ?

I see these every once in a while and always think to myself that in the wild there are far worse.

Yeah I'll see those every now and then. I had it worse before. So what I started doing was spot cleaning more and feeding Andy on a temporary food plate (newspaper,paper plate) and disposing of it after he was done.

hheeeyyy good idea ! maybe ill use that idea. they've been populating exponentially, but like i said, i dont mind nor does einstein seem to mind

The reason I had to nip it in the behind was because it was bothering the wife. She said our apartment looked dirty because of the dang flies.

I see them at times, but they don't really bother me. All part of a bioactive habitat.

bioactive habitat !!! thanks, the term has been bothering me all day trying to figure it out. it is a bioactive habitat, there is a cycle of things going on in there :)

I just replaced all the substrate in my hatchlings enclosure because of a knat problem...I don't want a bioactive habitat in my house...lol

I've been thinking about putting carnivorous plants around the enclosures. Might be interesting and maybe keep them in check.

that sounds sssooo epic ! hhmmm i wonder if they would be safe in the same enclosure as out torts though. feasible, but something is telling me .... no. haha but that would be awesome if it would work.
