I feed my Russian tort almost every night. She is a good eater loves to eat. However like clock work I notice in the morning, once the light goes on she goes right to her food dish and wants to eat. This is a pic of her this morning doing the same routine. Should I feed her, I don’t want her to get sick. Any help would be greatly appreciated. By the way her name is Betsy I’m Jamie. I was cleaning her dish but that’s where it is right where she is standing.

You should feed your tortoise in the morning, not in the evening. They are grazers throughout the day and basking under their UV lights provides the heat they need to digest their food.

Hi. You need to read the care sheets for these tortoises. Why feed at night? They are not nocturnal.

Yvonne? Your help is needed here!:)o_O

It's natural for tortoises to eat as soon as they warm up in the morning. If time constraints don't allow for you to feed her in the morning, then prepare her food at night then give it to her in the morning.

I also put coconut oil on her shell heard it’s good for them
Don't know much about Russian tortoises. I have redfoots. But I also have heard that coconut oil is good for the shells of any tortoises. I would not use it all the time, though. But that is just me. The important things are to have your Russian in the right enclosure, with the correct temperatures and humidity level, and the right diet for that particular species - Russian tortoise.

I put a mix of coconut, almond, and olive oils on my redfoot's shell once a week ...

Most important though is getting the proper heat and humidity set for tort, then feeding the optimal diet for your species.
