Hi Laura, she is a 4 month old cherryhead redfoot. Basking corner temp is between 90-94, rest is about 65-75, seems to flucuate. Lamp has uvb as well. Substrate is coir/sand mix with sphagnum moss on top. Humidity is good. She ate a very small amt of cactus this aft. She had liked cactus, cantelope, spring mix, dandelions, but now wont touch it. Other foods I have tried are all kinds of lettuces, collard greens, romaine, grape, apple, plum, etc
There is nothing she wants

You can out drops in their nose? She is very small, would that still be an option?

What sort of UV bulb are you using? The coil types can damage their eyes. Many redfoot keepers find the MVBs to be too bright, hot and harsh. Your temps sound a bit off for a redfoot. 65 is much too low and 94 is higher than what I have seen recommended for them. You ought to get in touch with one or more of the experienced redfoot keepers here on the forum and get some specifics.

Whenever a young growing tortoise loses its appetite, it usually indicates a problem with the set up. Often that problem is temps or lighting. Correct the problem and appetite comes back.

I have been e-mailing with someone that had yrs of experience but wrong info i guess. I have a mvb light, she will often go under the moss under the light and stay there. What I was told was: low 90's for under the light, dont use a che because as long as the house diesnt go below 65 its fine. I can't tell you how frustrating this has been, i am not doing her any good and i am constantly stressed out about her. I've had her a month or so , changed her food, lighting, substrate over and over and i cant get it right for her.

I dont have the set up for strip lighting, the enclosure is the bottom of a hagen , like the cement mixing trays or bins people use. I have a dig thermostat which i can keep an eye on temps. Why would she go under the moss under the light and not go to her hut on the cool side? I have posted before but the issue is that everyone has a dif opinion and i am getting frustrated and confused. Meanwhile i am doing her more harm than good. One day she might nibble on cactus, then thats it for eating

Tom, i moved the mvb higher, i have it at 16 inches away instead of 13. It is not quite as bright as before. She just went under it, but not under the moss like before,, i am just waiting to get the temperature.

So,,, now that the light isn't to bright, she is under it eating collard greens !!!!!! What should i do about a heat only source at night, use a che? Any other type of heat? At what temperature and watt should it be?? Hopefully once I get the right heat/wattage (60,100?) everything will be great. What temp should the hotter part of her enclosure be?

Yes, I realise that but had a lot of conflicting advice and it was better to try different things then to just let her end up sick?

Tom, do you know what temps should be in the basking corner and also the cooler part?

I'm not a redfoot keeper, and I'd rather let one of our many experienced redfooters give you specifics. There are a lot of them.

You can find a lot of information at tortoiselibrary.com , that site is maintained by Madkins007, so you can probably start there, you can also try n2torts. There are many more, those are just off the top of my head.
