rectum stuck out?

Our tort is female, 4 yrs old and she had large poop and what appears to be her rectun is stuck out 1-2 inches from her tail spot. We dont know if this is serious or what to do. She is eating and pooping fine but this has not happened before...Help...

May we know your name and where you are?

At 4 years of age, your tortoise is still too small for you to know for sure that its female. More than likely it is male and what you see is the penis. Be sure to keep it moist so it doesn't dry out. If it won't go back in, you need to take him to the vet. It can be a serious problem.

Thanks for all the replys! We are the Hughes's in Denton, Tx. And she is actually 6 yrs old and since post I kept searching for pics of this and does appear to be intestinal prolapse. As of now it did go back in and has stayed that way thus far. But this is awesome to know help is here if we need it again! Happy trails-

A good thing for a prolapse is a warm bath and a sugar paste. The sugar helps to shrink the tissue up so it can go back in on it's own. Keep her off of substrate so nothing gets stuck to it and keep it moist. If it happens again you'll know what to do. Glad you didn't have to worry this time!
