Hi, I've had a red footed tortoise for about two years now and it's always been happy. However recently it has been going in it's water bowl and staying there for hours at a time. Should I be worried or is this normal for this species.
Thank you Joe.

Hi Joe:

Welcome to the Tortoise Forum!!

May we know appx. where in the world you are?

When a tortoise sits long periods of time in the water, it sometimes means they don't feel well. Have you had it checked for parasites recently? Have you seen bowel movements? Might it be egg boung?

These are all things to check. Do you know of a good reptile vet in your area?

Along with what Yvonne said, anytime an animal starts to act differently, it is a good idea to review and double check the basics. You can use the articles or links in the Tortoise Library (linked below) as a start if you wish.

I really cannot offer more advice without more details- housing, temps, diet, etc.

Good luck!
