Hello! I’m new to the forum and was trying to find recent info about this topic.

Can anyone relay chalking times for redfoots? I thought it was about 7 days. This is my 3rd time trying.

I did get a new setup so humidity is a lot more stable.

Advice? Thoughts?

Thank you!
Ashli

I don't know about chalking times, but this may offer some help:

What are you using for media there? Is that sand? Contrary to what some people say, they DO eat in their first week, and usually they eat some of their media while they are still in their egg. You don't want sand or perlite anywhere near a pipping egg. Vermiculite is safe and easily passes once they start pooping.

I prefer to use a larger container and bury the eggs half to two thirds. They will fall out of those cups upon hatching. I'm sure you intend to move them once they pip, but I prefer to leave them alone until they leave their egg under their own power. This can take 24-48 hours.

There should also be a lid on the incubation container to help reduce air movement and keep humidity higher. I use plastic shoe boxes and I usually don't even drill any holes in them any more. If you do want holes, make no more than 2-4 1/8th inch holes near the top of the sides for ventilation.

85 is pretty low too. I prefer 86-88 for most species.
