Rescue turtle problem

The Yellow Bellied Slider {or what ever it is} that I took in , is pooping gravel, lots of gravel.

Has this happened to anyone else? Will it work it's way out? Need surgery? Any advice is appreciated.

Hopefully seeing it's coming out it will continue. Keep close eye on it and maybe @Anthony P can help with something you might be able to give to help it pass through.

as long as it's coming out it should be okay. is it on gravel?

No gravel as it has a plastron wound and is dry most of the time.

The previous owner must have had him on gravel. If it's coming out he should be okay.
Do you mean you're keeping him dry docked most of the time?

Water turtles eat a lot of gravel. Some animals eat gravel to aid in digestion. Some eat their substrate because they're not getting the minerals they need. As long as the gravel is coming out, it should be ok, but I wouldn't keep gravel in your turtle's aquarium.

Yes he's dry docked due to the shell wound. He floats and eats twice a day for about an hour.

Also I am looking to adopt her out when she is better. She's almost 19" scl and is a Mesoamerican Slider, female. She is friendly and does not see skidish around people.

The vet cleaned out the crud and has me putting nolvassan on it.

Oh yeah, that stuff is awesome. I use it for many things. Just buying chlorhexadine as the generic brand can save you a ton of money, by the way.
