Hi all, I am relatively new to the tortoise world but I do know better than to mix dogs and torts. However, I had my small Leos out in the yard in their cage and left them alone with the family dog, a black lab, for a few minutes. When I came back, the dog had toppled the cage and had bitten one of the Leos. There are two smallish punctures unfortunately, one on the plastron and one on the edge of the carapace. I can't blame the dog, I know its my fault.
So, I took "Peachy" to the vet immediately and it seems everything will be fine. Daily baths, an iodine-like wash and an antibiotic shot every other day. Recovery will take two weeks and I will absolutely have an upgraded outside run by then.
The vet also suggested I use RepCal as a supplement. I have been using TNT but the vet wasn't aware of that product.
Anyway, it was a fairly traumatic experience for me and my family but I hope others can learn from my mistake and for a speedy recovery for Peachy.

As a side note, I had posted before about my other Leo, Blondie, being lethargic. But I'm happy to report that before this incident both Leos had been active and voracious eaters. I dont know if Blondie got used to her new home or better diet or just the warmer weather. Hopefully they will be playing outside again very soon!

Thanks for all your support and guidance. This forum has been great!

Sorry to hear about this. Lesson learned and hopefully you'll see a full recovery.

TNT and RepCal are two different products that do two different things, both are good, but the RepCal is by far the more important of the two. And you don't have to use RepCal. Any calcium supplement is good. I used RepCal for many years and just recently switch to the ZooMed brand since I can get it in bulk cheaper.

Have you seen this:

I hadn't see that link. I plan on using something similar but made of 2"x12" instead of brick so that its easier to move around the lawn but still has some heft. Eventually, I will make a tort tractor, borrowing the concept from chicken tractors. It's similar but with a hide and wheels to make it easy to move.
