Russian Beak

I just feed my Russian some cactus leaf and sat here drinking my coffee while I watch. He pigged out on it, now that he’s finished eating he’s sort of opening his mouth in a “chewing” fashion and each time he does it there’s a noise that sounds similar to a small frog… if that makes sense at all. I took a closer look and it looks like maybe the sound is his lower jaw rubbing against his beak..? He’s done it probably 20 times now. I’ve never heard this noise before. He has his head sucked into his shell because of my phone being all up in his business.

I’ve attached some photos, does his beak need to be trimmed? If so, what does that process look like and is it DIY friendly?

Have had him about 2 years (older than that).

Thank you!

At first I thought he was burping because he pigged out. Maybe that’s what it is?

Now I don’t hear it and he’s chomping away at his actual food.

Still looking for opinions on the beak.

If he’s chowing down I wouldn’t be too worried just yet, perhaps he’s always done this and you’ve only just heard it yourself

Quite possible.

My attention to the details has been extremely heightened since attending the zoo.

Thank you for your input!
I’ll go back a read that thread shortly, been busy trying to get some content up and running🥰but haven’t forgotten how important that was!
