Just thought I’d throw an interesting article into people’s feeds today.
It looks like the last country who still legally exported Russians (said they were farm raised but pretty much admitted they were still wild caught) has now stopped the export for Russians entirely. This could mean that we finally stop seeing Russians for $100 in PetSmart and PetCo aquariums, and underprepared keepers stop treating Russians like feeder goldfish.
This also means captive breeders of Russians, it’s your time to shine! Keep these animals going in great numbers and I imagine the price will even go up. I know from the article these animals need even deeper protection still and of course black market could still carry on but for big box stores, this could be a roadblock. This is great news to read about one of my favourite species.
